Includes correspondence with patent attorneys and others, concerning patent difficulties and routine matters, and related material, such as patents, legal briefs and memoranda of agreement. Other papers include financial records, chiefly records of royalties and personal account books, and correspondence about Harvard research, publications, and work with Lee de Forest, regarding height of reflecting layer in atmosphere, with related notes and drafts of research fellow, John A. Pierce. Some manuscript notes and drafts of G.W. Pierce, concerning electric waves, are included in the papers. Also includes a notebook and 5 reels of film. Lee De Forest was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on August 26, 1873. He was a graduate of the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University in 1896 and received a Ph.D. from Yale in 1899. He was an important contributor in the development of wireless telegraphy in the United States. He started multiple radio broadcasting companies and patented 300 inventions in his lifetime.
